   Jim Nulman, an AV rated attorney with over 25 years of litigation experience, is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator. He is also certified as a mediator by the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, a Certified Family Mediator and a Florida State Qualified Arbitrator.

In 1980, Jim began practicing law in New Jersey. In 1983 he moved to Florida and joined the Fort Myers firm of Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, P.A. Jim practiced with Henderson Franklin until March 2006.

For over 25 years, Jim practiced civil litigation. His practice was broadly based and involved many areas of commercial litigation, including contract disputes, corporate/partnership disputes, business torts, employment disputes, employee restrictive covenants, real estate litigation, brokerage disputes, negligence actions, as well as a host of other litigation matters. He also practiced all aspects of construction law and litigation, from the drafting of design and construction contracts to handling a wide variety of construction litigation and arbitration matters, representing owner/developers, contractors and design professionals.


Mediation Experience

Jim started mediating in the early 1990s and, in 1995, became certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil Mediator and as a mediator before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

In March 2006, he established Nulman Mediation Services, Inc., a practice dedicated solely to providing mediation and arbitration services. While in the early years of his mediation practice, Jim mediated mostly commercial and construction disputes, over the years that has broadened significantly.

Arbitration Experience

In addition to mediating, Jim often serves as an arbitrator. He is state qualified and is frequently appointed as a non-binding arbitrator by the Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court in and for Collier County, Florida. He also serves as a binding arbitrator, a special master and as an insurance appraiser/umpire.

Jim has rendered decisions involving simple awards (merely stating the relief granted to the prevailing party), as well as reasoned decisions involving detailed findings of fact and conclusions of law. He also has rendered awards that include determinations of entitlement to and the amount of recoverable attorneys’ fees. 

Faculty Affiliation
A member of the faculty of Mediation Training Group, Inc. since 2006,  Jim participates in the circuit civil training and speaks on various topics including:  mediation theory and practice, mediation techniques, negotiation dynamics, attorneys and mediation, and the preparation of settlement agreements.  Mediation Training Group, Inc. is one of only a handful of companies approved by the Florida Supreme Court to provide the training required for attorneys and others seeking to become certified mediators. 

Honors
Jim has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution for 2010. He also was named one of the Best Lawyers in America for 2009, as well as was recognized as a 2009 Florida Super Lawyer.

Prior to this latest distinction, he was selected for inclusion in the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.  The Best Lawyers in America are named based on an exhaustive peer review survey involving more than 18,500 leading attorneys throughout the country who rate the legal abilities of their colleagues.
 
Jim also was chosen for inclusion in the 2006 edition of Florida Super Lawyers.  Selection for this honor is the result of an annual, comprehensive, state-wide, peer review selection process conducted by Law & Politics.  Approximately 5% of all attorneys in Florida receive this distinction.
